Ru- and Rh-Based Catalysts for CO2 Methanation Assisted by Non-Thermal Plasma

The need to reduce the concentration of CO2 in atmosphere is becoming increasingly necessary since it considered main factor responsible for climate change. Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology offers opportunity obtain a wide range chemicals using this molecule as raw material. In work, catalytic Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP)-assisted hydrogenation CH4 (methanation reaction) Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) reactor was investigated. Four different Ru- Rh-based catalysts were prepared starting from γ-Al2O3 spheres, characterized tested both thermal NTP-assisted methanation under operating conditions. experimental tests evidenced very positive effect NTP application on performance, highlighting that all same conversion reached at temperature 150 °C lower with respect conventional reaction. Among catalysts, bimetallic ones showed best reaching 97% about 180 energy consumption similar present literature.
